Technical Manager - Embedded Systems

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Manager specializing in Embedded Systems to lead the team in the design, development, and implementation of cutting-edge embedded solutions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in embedded software and hardware development, along with proven leadership abilities to guide and mentor a team of engineers. As a Technical Manager, you will oversee the entire lifecycle of embedded projects, from conception to delivery, ensuring that they meet quality standards, deadlines, and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Team Leadership:
    • Lead and manage a team of embedded systems engineers, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure project success.
    • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment, encouraging creativity, problem-solving, and continuous learning.
    • Set clear goals and expectations for team members, monitor progress, and provide regular feedback and performance evaluations.
  2. Project Management:
    • Oversee the planning, scheduling, and execution of embedded projects, including resource allocation, task assignment, and risk management.
    • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including software, hardware, and QA teams, to ensure seamless integration and delivery of embedded solutions.
    • Monitor project timelines and budgets, identifying and addressing any issues or deviations to keep projects on track.
  3. Embedded Systems Development:
    • Drive the design and architecture of embedded systems, including hardware selection, firmware development, and integration with external peripherals and sensors.
    • Collaborate with engineering teams to define system requirements, specifications, and interfaces, ensuring alignment with product goals and customer needs.
    • Conduct code reviews, design reviews, and technical discussions to maintain high standards of quality and performance in embedded software and hardware.
  4. Technical Expertise:
    • Stay abreast of emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in embedded systems development, incorporating them into project strategies and solutions.
    • Provide technical leadership and guidance on complex technical challenges, troubleshooting issues, and proposing innovative solutions.
    • Act as a subject matter expert on embedded systems within the organization, offering insights and recommendations for technology roadmap and product development.
  5. Documentation and Compliance:
    • Ensure comprehensive documentation of design specifications, technical requirements, test plans, and other project artifacts to support product development and regulatory compliance.
    • Work closely with regulatory and compliance teams to ensure embedded systems meet industry standards and certifications, such as ISO, IEC, and FDA requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Total engineering experience from 10 to 15 years.
  • Experience (5+ years) in embedded systems development, including firmware/software development and hardware integration.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in Agile/Scrum methodologies and project management tools (JIRA, Confluence).
  • Proficiency in embedded programming languages (C/C++, Assembly) and development tools (IDEs, debuggers).
  • Experience with microcontroller/microprocessor architectures (ARM, AVR, PIC) and embedded operating systems (RTOS, Linux).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of wireless communication protocols (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Zigbee) and IoT technologies.
  • Experience with safety-critical systems development and certification (ISO 26262, DO-178C).
  • Certification in project management (PMP), embedded systems (Embedded Systems Institute), or related field is a plus.
  • Familiarity with hardware design principles, schematic capture, and PCB layout.
